As an Associate Producer, I lead all the post-produced promos for the VMAs and Movie Awards from 2007-2009. At this time I developed the skills to manage large post-production teams and a razor sharp eye.
A career was my hand in the post-production and delivery of the 2008 Britney Spears and Russell Brand campaign. I was responsible for the graphic design and versioning and audio finishing for the host campaign. Our team collectively won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Promotional Announcement.
Winning an Emmy almost made up for not getting to meet Britney.
In 2009, after years in LA, the MTV VMAs returned to NYC, making it a special year for those of us that worked in MTV’s Times Square offices.
Because of the NYC theme, we scored the rights to a then unreleased Jay-Z track "Empire State of Mind." The track debuted in our promotional campaign.
To accompany the track visually, I set out with my design and production team in a van with a camera. We popped out to shoot stills everywhere from Times Square to Coney Island. Working closely with designer Mary Hawkins, we created what became one of my favorite award show campaigns.
I specialized in the "Laundry List," an announcement of attendees and performers that would be walking our red, (or pink, or white) award show carpets. I spent late nights, early mornings, and many weekends cranking out spots continuously, revising and delivering as attendees confirmed their appearances.
I became a librarian of MTV award shows and got a taste of interfacing with clients and movie studios to secure and clear footage for our promos.
