While I was well aware of MTV’s The Challenge for years, it wasn’t until I was asked to lead it’s promotions that I fell in love with this show. It became—and still is—my favorite show on TV.
Luckily, my go-to formula for these post-produced campaigns was easy. Watch the show, watch it again… One more time. Then, collaborate with a video editor to consolidate the most memorable moments and themes and trim it down until you’re left with quick, playful teasers that leave you wanting more.
This season took place in Mexico and premiered just one day short of Cinco de Mayo so I decided it would be appropriate to celebrate Cuatro de Mayo instead.
With the show in its 28th season, it was important to explore new territory. Spanish VO made the spots stand out and buzz-worthy. Quick and fun social teasers were where I had the most fun.
Tension is found in the moments before a challenge starts. I wanted to make the audience feel adrenaline as they watched these fierce competitors anticipate battle. The season’s hero spot used an original score composed by Ear-shock.com to help bring this to life.
Accompanying spots throughout the season provided an in depth glance at the Bloodlines theme + the drama, politics, and action the show is known and loved for.
